Design-Build Case Study
Northyard Parking Deck, Atlanta, GA
The Blue River Group was selected to design-build a new 2.1 million dollar 300 car cast-in-place parking deck in Northyards Complex adjacent to the downtown Atlanta Georgia Tech Campus, to expedite the project delivery and ensure that the overall project budget was maintained. The project initially required extensive remediation of unsuitable and contaminated soils and significant expansion and relocation of the existing utility systems. Due to the subsurface conditions, Blue River used a deep foundation system to provide adequate bearing capacity for the three-level structure.
Finding solutions and solving problems
The Blue River Group was able to bring the project ahead of schedule and make it possible for the client to utilize the parking deck when they took possession of the adjacent existing office facility. During this project, Blue River dealt with a few unforeseen obstacles; two abandoned leaking 10,000-gallon fuel tanks underground, and undocumented water and sewerage systems challenged the aggressive budget and schedule. However, The Blue River Group addressed the issues and worked as a team to find the right solution to overcome these obstacles.
